Strongid® Paste Dewormer from Zoetis (formerly Pfizer) is an FDA-approved equine dewormer containing the active ingredient pyrantel pamoate (43.9%). It is approved for the removal and control of mature infections of large strongyles (Strongylus vulgaris, S. edentatus, S. equinus); pinworms (Oxyuris equi); large roundworms (Parascaris equorum); and small strongyles in horses and ponies. One convenient disposable 20 mL syringe treats 1,200 pounds of body weight. The syringe is marked in four weight increments of 300 pounds. Administer the required dosage based on weight in a single dose to adult horses, ponies and foals over the age of two months. Exercise caution when dosing foals, young and miniature horses, as overdosage may result in serious adverse reactions. Pyrantel is a compound from the tetrahydropyrimidine class.
