The French Link Eggbutt Bit by Shires has a 14mm mouthpiece with a design that results in pressure being applied to both sides of the tongue. Some horses with low palates may find this bit more comfortable than a single-jointed bit as the mouthpiece should not contact the palate when the bit is in action.

The classic eggbutt cheeks offer sideways stability in the mouth and help prevent pinching of the lips. Rings are 55mm (in bit size 4.5″) and 77mm (in bit sizes 5″, 5.5″, 6″).
